About BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE
BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE is a Japanese furniture brand founded in 2023 with the mission of creating high-quality furniture that will endure the test of time and become future vintage pieces.
Amidst the rapid changes of modern times, our philosophy is that true value emerges over decades. A piece of furniture should be more valuable 10 years after purchase, and even more valuable after 100 years. This ideal is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, shaping each piece with care.
Our furniture originates from the Okhotsk region of Hokkaido, a remote area where we redefine beauty by transforming wood once deemed worthless into stunning, high-quality furniture.
Bringing Overlooked Wood to Light
Our focus is on “unmarketable” wood, often discarded as waste or turned into fuel simply because it does not meet industry standards.
These materials, despite their high quality, are overlooked due to natural imperfections like knots and cracks. We procure these woods through unique channels and breathe new life into them as furniture. This approach not only ensures affordability but also upholds sustainability.
However, simply creating eco-friendly furniture is not enough. If a piece lacks durability or timeless appeal, it fails its purpose.
At BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE, we believe that the most sustainable furniture is one that lasts a lifetime.
- Our designs are not flashy or trendy but rather timeless, familiar, and enduring—pieces that seem like they have always existed, yet are rare to find today.
- Master artisans with deep knowledge of woodwork employ traditional Japanese joinery techniques, ensuring both strength and longevity.
- Unlike mass production, each piece is crafted with precision and pride, achieving an unparalleled level of quality.
A Unique Buyback System
Every piece of furniture is individually numbered and recorded with detailed information, including:
- Year of manufacture
- Furniture type, design, and size
- Wood species
- Original price and buyer details
- Repair history
This system allows us to buy back our furniture if it is no longer needed, factoring in its rarity and age. In some cases, the buyback price could exceed the original purchase price.
Much like vintage wine, our furniture gains value over time.
In 100 years, what will these numbered pieces be worth?
BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE is dedicated to offering not just furniture but the joy of watching it evolve into a true vintage piece over time.

Furniture that can become vintage.
Perfect new but even better 10 years later.
Unchanged by the flow of time,
We hope to make furniture that has universal value.
The starting point to creating furniture is to think of just one person.
Make a wish, that the one person will use this creation.
It may be your family member or friend,
or someone you just met for the first time.
How will they live with the furniture?
How will they use it, how will they express their feelings, how will they act toward it?
We use our full imagination to visualize the hopes and needs of the owner,
and then we begin to work and give it shape.
The more we think of that one person, the more the creation will resonate with many people,
It may sound contradictory, but we still believe it.
The piece is not vintage yet.
Its value begins to increase from the moment you use it.
